Cameroon Defeat Gambia To Set Up Nigeria Clash

Cameroon earned a 3-2 win over Gambia to qualify for the second round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Indomitable Lions will now face Nigeria in the next stage of the competition after earning a vital win to advance.

Rigobert Song’s team needed an outright win to qualify for the round of 16 after just one point from their first two games and they fought hard to earn it.

Toko Ekambi gave Cameroon the lead in the 56th minute before Ablie Jallow made it 1-1 in the 72nd minute.

Ebrima Colley put Gambia in the lead in the 85th minute, two minutes later Cameroon equalised through James Gomez’s own goal.

Christopher Wooh scored a 91st minute winner to hand Cameroon the maximum points and ultimately a second round place.

Senegal earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Guinea to ensure a perfect record in the group. They finished top of the table with nine points, while Cameroon garnered four points to sit second.

Cameroon will battle The Super Eagles of Nigeria for a place in the quarter finals on Saturday.
