Cholera Outbreak Hits Adamawa, 12 Confirmed Dead

A suspected cholera outbreak in Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas of Adamawa State has claimed the lives of 12 people.

This was confirmed by the Head of Emergency Operation Centre and Director Public Health in the state health ministry, Bwalki Dilli, who added that 134 others were receiving treatment.

Following the development, he said medical personnel from the Ministry in partnership with World Health Organisation (WHO) have been mobilised to the area

‘’For now, we are in a period of a suspected cholera outbreak in two local government areas of Mubi North and Mubi South.’’ Mr Dilli said.

“We quickly rushed to the local government areas and conducted our investigation. We carried out some basic laboratory tests.

“We took stool samples from 11 patients and all the 11 were positive for cholera. But it’s just rapid diagnostic test; it’s not confirmatory,”

Dili, who stated that they await result from the samples that have been taken to a reference laboratory for further investigation, urged the people to take hygiene seriously as he said ‘’ people need to wash their hands after answering the call of nature and stop defecating in an open space’’
