Coronavirus: South Africa President Calls For National Prayer

The president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has asked citizens to pray from wherever they are, for the rescue of the nation from the Coronavirus pandemic.

As of Thursday, the country had recorded 709 covid-19 cases with no death.

This is coming on the 21st day of its national lockdown, according to the president’s spokesperson, Khusela Diko.

The president said that the corporate 2- minutes prayers and reflection would hold on
Thursday, 26, March between 18:00 and 18:30 hours.

“Because we are in a state of national lockdown, our prayers must be offered from our hearts and in our homes.

“I call on all our people, whether they are religious or not, wherever they are, on Thursday the 26th of March to observe a moment of silence in a show of social solidarity,” he added.

The president also said that it was a trying time for the country as they were faced with a novel virus , adding that many are becoming afraid.

“The international occurrence of the coronavirus pandemic has affirmed yet again that the challenge we face is a global one and one we cannot overcome alone,” the president said.

Ramaphosa lauded the nation’s work force for doing their best at such a time.

“In observing this National Day of Prayer, we also want to send a message of hope to our brave and patriotic health care workers who are on the frontline and helping to save lives, with our emergency personnel, police, traffic officers and military, and with all those who are working tirelessly to keep us safe, healthy and alive,” he said.
