Pandemonium broke out in the ancient city of Kano on Monday , as hundreds of aggrieved youths protested alleged killing of a 17- year-old boy, Saifullahi, in police custody.
The young boy, who lived at Kofar Mata Quarters, was said to have been arrested two days ago by the police while he was sleeping at the premises of his family house.
His people were said to have protested the arrest because he was never known for criminal activities.
He was detained by the Police despite protest by the community.
The boy allegedly died two days later in police custody as a result of torture.
It was also gathered that Saifullahi had been released on bail only for the police to re-arrest and detain him again.
But as the police brought his corpse to the family house on Monday morning, members of the community were enraged and a spontaneous riots stated.
The rampaging youths took over major roads in the city, making bonfires and venting their anger on police.
As at the time of filing this report, all efforts to get Kano State Police Command were unsuccessful.
Spokesman of the command, ASP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa was not picking his calls.
