Court Acquits Atiku’s Lawyer Of Money Laundering Charges

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has acquitted a lawyer, Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, of money laundering charges instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Osagie was a counsel to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the court gave the verdict, saying the prosecution could prove its case.

The EFCC had arraigned him and his brother, Erhunse, on a three-count charge for allegedly laundering 2 million dollars during the 2019 general elections.

The election was won by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The commission had claimed that the duo conspired to make the payments “without going through a financial institution.”

But Giwa-Osagie told the court that he had no case to answer in the matter.
