Court Orders FG To Pay Igboho N20bn, Stops DSS From Arresting Him

Oyo state High Court sitting in Ibadan, has ordered the Federal Government to pay the sum of N20bn to Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday  Igboho as damages for the invasion of his residence.

The DSS had on July 1 raided Igboho’s residence at the Soka area of Ibadan and killed two persons. They also arrested 12 occupants of the house and claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from the house.

But his counsel, Chief Yomi Aliyyu ( SAN) filed a suit before the court against the Attorney General of the Federation and the DSS before Justice Ladiran Akintola.

Igboho, through his counsel demanded N500bn damages and an order restraining the respondents and their agents from arresting him.

Delivering judgment on Friday, the judge ordered the Federal Government to pay Igboho N20bn for the invasion of his residence and the property destroyed there.

He also ordered that Aliyyu should be paid N2m as cost of filing the process.

The court also restrained the DSS or their agents from arresting Igboho or harassing him.

Igboho had escaped from the house during the raid and was eventually arrested in Cotonou together with his wife on his way to Germany .
