COVID-19: Africa CDC Director Wants Vaccine Trials In Continent

The Director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control (AfricaCDC), John Nkengasong, says there need to be covid-19 vaccine trials in Africa, like it is currently ongoing in other continents.

He added that the absence of such trial in any of Africa’s institutions was worrisome.

Vaccine has been strongly recommended by the World Health Organization(WHO), as the primary solution to the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to a statement published by WHO ( Covid-19 Candidate Vaccines) on its website on Wednesday, seen by THE WHISTLER, certain institutions in China, United Kingdom( Oxford University), United States of America, India, among others , were currently engaging in different vaccine trials.

Nkengasong added that the Africa CDC would partner with the Coalition for Epidermic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), to bring vaccine trials to the continent.

“The absence of vaccine trials on this map is concerning. @AfricaCDC looks forward to working with @CEPIvaccines to feel this gap,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

CEPI, which has five funded vaccine candidates, had stressed that it was hopeful in coming up with a Covid-19 vaccine.

“In order to bring an end to this devastating crisis, we are working to develop #COVID19 vaccines at pandemic speed,” it tweeted
