Covid-19: CNN Reports ‘Leaked Document’ Showing China ‘Lied’ About Virus

According to leaked documents from China, its government did not fully disclose the true situation of the coronavirus to the appropriate international authorities but had to “downplay the severity of the outbreak.”

The 117-page documents from China’s Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, was seen by Cable News Network (CNN).

According to the document tagged ‘Internal Document, Please Keep Confidential’, China registered “a total of 5,918 newly detected cases on February 10, more than double the official public number of confirmed cases, breaking down the total into a variety of subcategories. This larger figure was never fully revealed at that time, as China’s accounting system seemed, in the tumult of the early weeks of the pandemic, to downplay the severity of the outbreak.

“However, though the documents provide no evidence of a deliberate attempt to obfuscate findings, they do reveal numerous inconsistencies in what authorities believed to be happening and what was revealed to the public,” CNN reported.

The latest development is coming after the United States President Donald Trump, whose country is among those badly hit by covid-19, resulting in over 250,000 deaths, had on April 24, put the blame on China.

He had alleged that China failed to inform the world properly about the virus causing it to spread.

But China’s foreign ministry’s spokesperson, Geng Shuang, had debunked Trump’s claims adding that “we urge the US to correct its mistake and stop its groundless accusations against China.”.

However, while the accusations were flying between the two countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) had absolved itself from being the cause of the covid-19 spread globally.

”A pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan, China was first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019,” it had stated.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Chinese government is yet to respond to the latest disclosures in the leaked document, as quoted by CNN on Tuesday.
