COVID-19: Enugu Police Commissioner Vows To Deal With Erring Officers

The commissioner of police, Enugu State, Ahmad Abdurrahman, Monday, warned officers and men of the command against misconduct in implementing various social restriction orders aimed at curbing coronvirus infections in the state.

While reaffirming the command’s commitment towards full enforcement of the orders, CP Abdurrahman urged the personnel to desist from acts capable of tarnishing the image of the force during the enforcement of the orders.

According to a statement made available to THE WHISTLER in Enugu, signed by the command’s public relations officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the police commissioner called on the officers and men to always exhibit a high sense of professionalism and avoid the arbitrary use of their discretional powers in the discharge of their duties.

Abdurrahman warned that any report of incivility, brutality, extortion and other acts of official misconduct against any erring officer would attract severe sanctions, and directed all area commanders, divisional police officers and heads of tactical/operational departments of the command to ensure maximum control and supervision of officers and men under them, as they would be held liable for any lapses recorded in their areas of responsibility.

Abdurrahman, who also acknowledged the adverse socio-economic impact of the restriction orders on mankind globally, enjoined residents of the state to remain law-abiding and comply with the restriction orders, which had being adjudged globally as the best ways to avoid contracting the dreaded virus.

“He further implored them to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to criminals, especially fraudsters who are using the internet and social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting citizens of their hard-earned valuables in these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement further read.

The residents were also advised to report suspected criminals and acts of criminality to the nearest police station or call the command’s emergency hotlines on 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172.
