COVID-19: South Africa Pledges €1.1 Million To WHO

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has made a pledge of 1.1 million euros to the World Health Organisation(WHO) on behalf of his country.

The pledge was made in support of efforts toward the creation and circulation of the Coronavirus vaccine.

WHO Director General, Dr. Tedros, confirmed the pledge in a tweet on Monday.

“Big thanks to my brother @CyrilRamaphosa, ?? President, for his strong leadership to keep Africa safe from #COVID19; we welcome his pledge of €1.1+M to the global response. #UnitedAgainstCoronavirus,” Tedros tweeted.

The European Union, in partnership with WHO, called for a global response from countries on Monday.

The estimated funds expected is about 7.5 billion euros.
