Dismissed Policeman Who Burgled Jonathan’s House Granted N7m Bail

A Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has granted bail of N7 million to a former policeman who allegedly broke into the house of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Musa Musa has been accused of breaking into Jonathan’s apartment situated at Gwarinpa, Abuja on July 5.

He stole all the internal fittings, furniture, clothes, electrical fittings, water heater, kitchen utensils, wardrobes, chandeliers, refrigerators, doors and canopies valued N30 million from the house.

The offence contravenes sections 353, 326 and 288 of the Penal Code Cap 89, Laws of the Northern Nigeria 1963.

Musa, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

In her ruling, Senior Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello, ordered the defendant to produce one reliable surety who must be a civil servant and must reside in the FCT.

“Bail is granted to allow the accused attend trial. Where it is perceived that the accused may jump bail, he may be denied,” Segun-Bello said.

“Sufficient reason was not placed before the court that the accused will jump bail or a concrete evidence that the matter is of national interest,’’ Segun-Bello added.

The magistrate, therefore, adjourned the matter for hearing until October 3.

Musa is one of the three officers dismissed by the police force for burgling the former president’s house.
