Dubai Returnee Did Not Die Of Covid-19, Lagos Commissioner Confirms

The Lagos State commissioner for health, Akon Abayomi, has said the Dubai returnee who was announced dead in the state did not die of coronavirus.

Recall that one of the Nigerians who recently returned from Dubai developed complications and was transferred to the state isolation center where he finally died.

Though his death was linked to coronavirus, the commissioner in a tweet said a Covid-19 gold standard test was being conducted on the deceased.

“Because of the sudden nature of his demise and without any prior knowledge of his multiple preexisting conditions it was presumed to be a #COVID19 related death

“This presumptive attribution is a precaution to ensure the safe clinical management of the patient and subsequent handling of the corpse.”

Abayomi however on Thursday announced that the test returned negative for the virus.

“his death is no longer considered to have been attributable to #COVID19” he added.

With the confirmation, the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in the state stands at 33.
