EBONYI: Police Arrest Gov Umahi’s Aide, Lawmaker, 30 Others For ‘Inciting Violence’

A member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly representing Ohaukwu North, Chinedu Awọ, was on Sunday picked up by the police alongside 31 other present and former government officials in the state.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, directed his men to arrest the lawmaker and others on the orders of the state’s Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe.

The persons were arrested for the roles they allegedly played in the clash between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Effium community, which reportedly resulted in the death of seven people.

Among those arrested were the chairman of Ohaukwu Local government area, Clement Odah, Coordinator of Effium Development Centre, Sunday Agbo and his Effium South DC Counterpart, Eucharia Ogwale.

A former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and Special Assistant on Market Development, Emmanuel Uzor, as well as his counterpart in Charge of Parks Development, Emmanuel Igwe, were also arrested.

The former lawmaker representing Ohaukwu North state Constituency and Governor David Umahi’s Special Assistant on Youth Development, Frank Onwe, was also among those arrested.
