Edo 2020: IGP Says No Security Escorts For VIPs On Election Day

The Inspector-General of Police, (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, has barred security aides attached to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and Political appointees from accompanying their principals on election day.

The IGP disclosed this in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Friday, noting that all defaulters would be ‘severely’ reprimanded.

The IGP who earlier deployed senior officials of the force to coordinate security operations in the state, charged officers and men on election duties in the State to ensure they work in line with standard best practices and adhere strictly to the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for elections.

He called on members of the public, particularly politicians, gubernatorial candidates and other relevant stakeholders in the State to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in guaranteeing a hitch-free gubernatorial poll.
