Edo Govt Eyes Partnership With Oando For Electric Bus Rollout

The Edo State Government has announced plans to explore a partnership with Oando Clean Energy Limited to transform its public transportation system with electric buses.

The plans, shared on the state government’s Facebook page on Monday, are said to signal bold steps toward a greener and more efficient future of mobility.

The state government stated that these plans followed its recent engagement with Oando, coupled with a visit to Oando Clean Energy’s headquarters in Lagos.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Finance, Investments, and Revenue Generation, Kizito Okpebholo, led the delegation to Lagos.

The visit, according to the release, provided firsthand insight into the successful rollout of Oando’s electric bus mass transit system in Lagos.

The visit also aimed to evaluate a potential Public-Private Partnership (PPP) that would replicate Oando’s electric mobility success in Edo State.

Speaking, Okpebholo said, “We witnessed the electric buses, their charging systems, and the operational framework.

“We’ve informed them that we will engage key stakeholders such as the Edo State Transport Authority (ESTA) and Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) to assess how this innovation can best fit our transport landscape.”

The statement added, “The proposed project aligns with Edo State’s commitment to go green in the coming years and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

‎”Recently, the New Edo Line was revamped by Governor Okpebholo with over 100 new buses ready to take off.

‎”Through upgrading the existing Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) to a modern electric bus system, the State aims to enhance efficiency, improve public welfare and contribute to environmental sustainability.

‎”Discussions are ongoing with key stakeholders to finalise the framework for this potentially transformative partnership.”
