EFCC Denies Searching Justice Odili’s Residence

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has denied reports that it carried out a search operation at the residence of a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili.

This followed reports that its operatives raided Odili’s residence on Friday.

Earlier reports had claimed that EFCC operatives stormed Odili’s home to execute a search warrant as part of investigations of her husband, Peter Odili, who is a former governor of Rivers State, for alleged corruption.

But reacting in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the commission urged the public to disregard the reports.

“The Commission by this statement wishes to inform the public that the report is false as it did not carry out any operation at the home of Justice Odili.

“If there was any such operation as claimed by the media, it was not carried out by the EFCC.

“The Commission enjoins the public to discountenance the report,” the statement read.

Peter Odili, who was Rivers governor from 1999 to 2007, had in 2007 obtained a perpetual injunction from a Federal High Court which barred the EFCC from investigating or prosecuting him.

THE WHISTLER reported last week that a Federal Hight Court sitting in Abuja had ordered the EFCC to remove the former governor’s name from its watchlist.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the court sitting, also ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service to release Odili’s international passport to him.
