The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has invited the former chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alimodu Sheriff, for questioning over the source of the party’s campaign funds.

A source at the anti-graft agency who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday said, “Yes it is true, the EFCC in Borno state has invited Ali Modu Sheriff.”

Sheriff’s invitation for questioning, is part of the anti-graft agency’s investigation into the source of funding for PDP campaigns during the 2015 general elections.

The EFCC invitation is coming just as Sheriff is facing stiff opposition from some leaders of his party.

Recall that a caretaker committee chaired by Ahmed Makarfi, former governor of Kaduna state, was set up to lead the party temporarily‎, following the dissolution of the national working committee (NWC) of the Sheriff-led PDP.

But on Monday, Sheriff invaded the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, declaring that he is still the substantial chairman of the party and that his term would end in 2018.

Former Ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode and Nenadi Usman are also under investigation over the campaign funds by the EFCC.
