EFCC To Review Benue Govt’s Security Meetings From 2015-2018
If Wednesday’s submission by the Benue State Government is any indication, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may have abandoned its primary responsibility to regulate security activities in the state.
According to Governor Samuel Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, the EFCC has asked the Benue government to make available details of all its security meetings in the state from 2015 to 2018 to the agency.
Akase made this revelation to reporters in a statement today.
In the statement, the governor’s aide asked: “What does EFCC want to do with minutes of Benue State security council meetings? Has EFCC moved from fighting crimes to a security regulating agency?
“It has asked for minutes of the state security council meetings between 2015 and 2018. What does EFCC want from Benue state?” queried Akase.
THE WHISTLER recalls that the anti-graft agency had reportedly frozen the bank accounts of the state government recently.
The development came after Governor Ortom dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was learnt that the EFCC blocked the state government’s bank accounts in efforts to probe the governor for an alleged N22 billion funds diversion.
