Enugu Commissioner Ekweremadu Slumps, Dies At State House Of Assembly

The commissioner for transportation, Enugu State, Mr Mathias Ekweremadu, Thursday, slumped while defending the proposed employment billed to be conducted by his ministry before members of the Enugu State House of Assembly. Our correspondent reports that his ministry was in the process of recruiting one thousand road traffic officials to manage traffic matters in the state. He was rushed to Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, where he was confirmed dead.

MJ Ekweremadu, as he was popularly called, was the younger brother of former Deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu. Before his appointment as commissioner by Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the late Ekweremadu was chief whip of the Enugu State House of Assembly. He was also a two-time chairman of Aninri Local Government Area.

A renowned farmer, the late Ekweremadu held titles of Ezeigbo Dengi, and Chikeluba I of Mpu.

THE WHISTLER reports that one of his sons died in 2019 shortly after he was appointed commissioner.
