Enugu Governor Marks Birthday With Free Medical Services Across State

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State is 56 and celebrating his birthday in a unique way.

Ugo’s Touch of Life Foundation, U-TOLF, in collaboration with Dr. Chukwudi Abraham Nneji Hospital Organization, Germany, is rendering free medical services to residents of all the 17 local government areas of the state to mark the governor’s birthday.

The organizers say the outreach runs from March 16 to 20, being Governor Ugwuanyi’s birthday; and has so far recorded excellent turnout.

It began on Monday in Awgu, Aninri, Nkanu West, and Nkanu East Local Government Areas.

 It held on Tuesday in Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs, while Wednesday would be the turn of Isi-Uzo, Igbo-Etiti, and Udenu LGAs.

The service would get Ezeagu, Oji River, and Udi LGAs on Thursday while it will be rounded off on Friday in Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South LGAs.

Locals were being tested and treated for eye defects, malaria, blood pressure and sugar level, among others.

The patients were also given wrappers, books, bags, hand fans and other gifts after treatment. A medical officer in the team said complex cases would be referred to tertiary health facilities.

In Ogrute, the council headquarters of Igboeze North LGA, patients commended the organizers of the event. One of them,  Nnaji Apeh, said, “I have had eye problems for a long time. I was thinking that I would be blind. I thank those that brought this here. I have been treated free of charge.”

In Nsukka LGA, Veronica Eya commended U-TOLF, stating, “I do have chronic pains over my body. I have been going to hospitals. I resorted to prayers because I couldn’t afford medication. Today, I was tested and given some drugs. I am okay forever.”

In Ibagwa-Aka, headquarters of Igbo-Eze South LGA, a beneficiary also said, “I also got clothes after my treatment. I want our big men to do the same. This is the best way to remember the poor when big men celebrate.”
