Enugu Residents Express Views On EEDC Services

Some residents of Enugu metropolis, Friday, commended the operatives of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, for improved service delivery and commitment to duties. They however attributed some wrong impressions against the agency to the activities of some bad eggs among them, and also the failure of power consumers to follow due processes in submitting their matters.

One of them, Mrs Rita Eze, said, “I think EEDC operatives are relatively wrongly accused of all sorts of things. I don’t want to exonerate anybody, but I have had some cases that they handled professionally. Maybe I was lucky. Our metre had some issues, and we went to their office. The crowd was much, but when it got to our turn, we laid our complaints and left. They gave us a ticket. A day after, I got a call from them. The person demanded to know my address. Like a joke, they came and fixed it even when I was not around.
“And to show that they know what they were doing, I was called later in the day to confirm if the power supply had been restored.”

Another consumer residing at Agu Abor in Enugu East LGA, Nnanna, said, “Many people condemn them because they fail to follow due processes in laying their matters. Some will simply call them when they need to go there. I agree that it can be difficult because of the surging crowd, but it requires patience. Some of the officials are indeed corrupt, but we fail to concretely report them. I know some bad eggs there that were sacked over corruption.”

A resident of Ukpor in Anmabra State, who did not want his name mentioned, said, “I had a case. I never stayed in my house more than five days in a month for one year. And I always paid my bills. I defaulted one month and my line was cut, which lasted for over six months because I did not return home. Eventually I returned, and demanded reconnection. A closer look on the bill they brought showed that I was being billed over N10, 000 every month within the period the line was caught.

“I wrote to their office in Enugu. They acknowledged receipt of my letter immediately through a text message. I was later impressed when all their engineers who were exploiting me and my people were either sacked or reposted. Above all, the excess bills were written off, with an apology letter sent to me. I advise our people to follow due processes in tackling these EEDC workers. The agency is not a saint, but not as bad as we paint them.”
