ESUT Gets Approvals For Multi-Campus Structure

The new Governing Council of Enugu State University of Technology, ESUT, Tuesday endorsed the move by Enugu State Government to return the university to its original multi-campus status.

The pro-chancellor and chairman of the council, Igwebuike Onah, told newsmen after their inauguration in Enugu that the decision would enable faster growth and  allow the university raise the “intellectual tone of more rural communities in the state.”

He also commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for constructing, renovating and equipping a high number of classroom blocks in the primary and secondary and  tertiary institutions in the state.

He said: “ESUT has been a privileged beneficiary of this attention in many ways, even in times when harsh economic realities in the state and in the country could have offered you plausible excuses for reducing your support. For this, the ESUT community is grateful and this should not be taken for granted.”

He pledged the commitment of the committee towards uplifting the university to expectations, adding that, “we promise you that we shall put in our best to provide the enabling environment for the university to pursue excellence in research, teaching and learning; our aim is to make ESUT a centre for scientific research and innovations that would provide answers to some of our most basic needs.”

Gov. Ugwuanyi, during the inauguration, tasked the new council to ‘re-engineer the finances of the institution leveraging opportunities for grants, intellectual products and university enterprise as there was a limit to school fees hike and subvention from government.

 He further charged them to ensure that the founding objectives of the institution were realized.

Members of the council are :Prof. Luke Anike, vice chancellor; Lady Jane Nnamani, Dr. Nicholas Onyebuchi Agbo, Prof. Osita Ogbu, Prof. Engr. Emmanuel Ezugwu, HRH Igwe Amb. Lawrence Agubuzu, Rev. Fr. Ikechukwu Ani, Prof. C.I. Ani, Prof. Frank Asogwa, Mr. Chibuzo Okoh, Engr. Dr. Innocent Akuvue, Prof. Uche Eze, Dr. Suleiman Babatunde Raymon-Yusuf, and Leonard O. Khama, who serves as secretary.

With this arrangement, the university will now commission its branch at Nsukka, including its medical school under construction at Igboano in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
