FAAN Conducts Air Crash Rescue Simulation Operation Four Days After Attahiru’s Death

Four days after Nigeria’s Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, died in a crash at Kaduna, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has conducted an air crash rescue simulation operation to assess response to air crashes.

The exercise follows the death of Attahiru and ten others onboard a military aircraft in Kaduna around 6pm on Saturday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Attahiru as the 21st COAS of the Nigerian Army in January 2021.

The exercise was carried out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Mahmud Sani, FAAN’s Regional Manager, North Central said.

He said, “This was meant to test the safety and emergency plan of the airport in preparation for its re-certification.

“The exercise was also aimed at examining how the response agencies would manage and respond to emergencies at the scene of an accident.”

The Nigeria Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Department of State Services, Ports Health, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Fire Service Department of FAAN were present during the air crash rescue simulation exercise.

According to the Deputy general manager, Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Department, Rimdap Nantim, the air crash simulation exercise was targeted at revealing the level of coordination among response teams at accident scenes.
