FG Approves Third Flight To Evacuate Stranded Nigerians In U.S.

The Federal Government has approved a third flight for the evacuation of stranded Nigerians in the United States, Nigeria’s Consulate General in New York said.

The flight is scheduled to depart Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey on Friday July 17 by 21:15hrs and arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Saturday, July 18, 2020.

The Consulate General said this in a statement dated 23 June which was seen by THE WHISTLER.

According to the Consulate General, the flight, Ethiopian Airline, Flight No. ET509, would cost $1,250 for the economy class and $2,800 for the Business Class, adding that only duly registered evacuees with any of the three Nigerian Missions in the US would be issued tickets.

The statement noted that prospective evacuees who purchased tickets should forward their name, phone number and details of their next of kin to [email protected] for confirmation, which would be treated on a “first come first served bases.”

The consulate said that it would observe strictly the directive of the Presidential Task force on COVID-19 on testing of evacuees before boarding the flight.

The statement stressed that all prospective evacuees must present Covid- 19 test result not older than 14 days and must be negative.

Also evacuees would undergo temperature check four hours prior to departure with temperature not more than 38 Degree Centigrade. The statement said Nigerians who failed to provide the results and pass the temperature check would not be allowed to check in.

According to the consulate, evacuees must wear face mask and be in possession of hand sanitizer through out the journey, adding that they must adhere strictly to all screening protocols.
