The first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has excused himself from official duties after his covid-19 test results returned positive.
The United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, on Friday, tweeted that the development was indeed a trying moment for the world.
Pompeo wished the former president wellness, on behalf of the US government.
“I wish Kazakhstan’s First President Nursultan Nazarbayev a full and speedy recovery from COVID-19,” he tweeted.
The country’s first president, in a statement published on his official website, confirmed that his covid-19 status was real and that it should not be a concern to the country.
His office said he would continue to work behind the scene.
“Currently, the First President of Kazakhstan is on self-isolation.
“Unfortunately, the last test of Elbasy for coronavirus infection showed a positive result,” the statement read in part.
Kazakhstan is a country in central Asia.
