Five Things That Make 2021 Gulder Ultimate Search Different

The TV Premiere of Gulder Ultimate Search themed, “The Age of Craftsmanship” is set to commence from this Saturday, October 16, 2021, and will run till December 19, when the grand finale will hold.

The first edition of the show was held in 2004 and it has run for eleven seasons with a celebrity edition that was aired in 2010. The GUS series is also the very first local content reality TV program in Nigeria, and it is a survival-type reality show format where the contestants struggle against each other in the harsh terrain of the jungle in which they are camped with a balance of wits and strength.

The show highlights the struggle of Contestants (10–30 persons, depending on the reference edition), contending against themselves and the wild, that is nature, and their search for a hidden treasure.

The Winner of the last season in 2012 took home a N10m cash prize and an SUV.

As this year’s season commences on Saturday, it is pertinent to know why the 2021 Gulder Ultimate Search will be different from past seasons.

Wide Viewership

The range of viewership is going to be more, as the show will air on Africa Magic which is the first time the show will be aired on this platform.

Organisers of GUS had earlier stated that the reality TV show will air on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv channel 151), Africa Magic Urban (DStv channel 153), and Africa Magic Family (DStv channel 154 & GOtv channel 2) on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 pm till 9 pm.

This is unlike in the previous season where the show is usually aired on local TV stations such as the NTA and AIT.

First Female Anchor

The organisers of the show has announced Toke Makinwa as the host of the programme making it the first time the show will be anchored by a woman. Previous editions of the show were anchored by Nollywood actors Chidi Mokeme and Bob Manuel-Udokwu.

Some Nigerians had said that the choice of Toke Makinwa was wrong after she was announced as the anchor of the show. Nigerians questioned the choice of Makinwa instead of Chidi Mokeme, Bob Manuel who have anchored the show for long, or Kate Henshaw due to her fitness.

But others said that the choice of Makinwa was good for the show since she has paid her dues in the entertainment industry.

Wildcards Twist

The wildcards twist is the first time the organisers of the show will be introducing a twist, which could be a fall out of the BBNaija Wildcard twist. The twist during BBNaija made the show interesting, and also made the show to trend. It is believed that the organisers of the show may also want to use that as a strategy to make the show more interesting.

Higher Winning Prize

The winning prize rose from N3m in the first edition to N10m with an SUV in the last edition.

However, the grand prize for the year’s season is expected to be higher considering the need to compensate for the fall in the value of Naira as well as inflationary pressures.

Location

Viewers should expect a new location, as the previous seasons have seen contestants camped in different parts of the country to compete against each other, while searching for the hidden treasure since its first edition which premiered in 2004.
