Flashback To What Festus Keyamo Said About Defections To PDP

The Director of Strategic Communications, President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, had recently mocked the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for “endlessly” waiting on members of the ruling party to defect to its fold.

Mr Keyamo had posted a picture of a skeleton, sarcastically suggesting that it was the National Chairman of the PDP waiting on some APC members who had promised him to defect from the ruling party to the opposition party.

The Buhari 2019 campaign organisation spokesperson had on June 25, 2018, captioned the skeletal picture: “On a lighter note, this is the image of the National Chairman of the opposition party waiting endlessly to get phone calls from those who promised him they would break away from the APC Convention and come over to revive their dying party.”

But fast forward to today, the PDP appears to be having the last laugh as the past week has recorded a massive drift of chieftains of the ruling APC to the opposition party.

First was the defection of over 48 APC federal lawmakers from both chambers of the National Assembly to the PDP.

Then came the defection of Benue State Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom, from the APC to the PDP barely twenty hours after 14 senators and about 34 House of Reps members dumped the ruling party for the opposition party.

Exactly one week after, the worst yet hit the APC after the President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, alongside its National Publicity Secretary, dumped the ruling party for the PDP.

Meanwhile, the PDP, in a tweet on Tuesday, advised the APC to prepare to lose more of its chieftains to its fold as it was not yet done with ruling party.

Expected to also defect from the APC to the PDP any moment from now is the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, whose defection was reportedly paused last week for tactical reasons.
