Future Of NNPC Under New GMD Kyari Bright – Baru

The outgoing Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru, has expressed confidence that the incoming management of the NNPC under the leadership of his successor, Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari, will take the Corporation to the next level.

Baru, who is due to bow out of the NNPC on July 7 after retiring from service, said he’s more than sure that with Kyari as the new captain of the NNPC ship, the incoming GMD and his team “would deliver on their respective mandates in line with the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the dreams of the Corporation’s founding fathers.”

The outgoing GMD, also congratulated the newly appointed Chief Operating Officers (COOs) of the of the NNPC, describing their appointments as “well-deserved”

Baru made the commendations in a statement issued by NNPC’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamadu, on Friday.

The outgoing GMD’s commendation is coming on the heels of the enthusiastic approvals that trailed Kyari’s appointment by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

NEITI’s Executive Secretary, Waziri Adio, had in reaction to the appointment on Thursday described Kyari as a “well-known transparency champion and one who enthusiastically shares the principles which underline the work of NEITI and the global EITI on good governance of the oil and gas industry”.

OPEC’s Secretary General, Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, on his part commended Kyari’s “exemplary record and exceptional performance” in the NNPC.

Barkindo added that the new GMD has “earned the respect of your colleagues in the ECB where you have conducted yourself with gravitas and greatly contributed to the discussions and decisions of this body.”
