Gov Umahi Sacks Political Appointees From Sam Egwu’s Constituency

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi, has fired political appointees from Ohaukwu Local Government Area, a council in the Senatorial constituency of Sam Egwu, a Peoples Democrstic Party chieftain in the state.

The sack was contained in a statement signed by the secretary to the state government, Mr Kenneth Ugbala, which was made available to journalists in Abakaliki.

According to the statement, “In the avowed determination of the Ebonyi State government to allow greater participation of people in governance, Gov David Umahi has approved the sack of political appointees from Ohaukwu Local Government Area with immediate effect.

“The office-holders include all the coordinators, all the executive assistants (EAs), all the senior technical assistants (STAs), all the technical assistants (TAs), all the liaison officers and all the management committee members of development centres.”

The statement added that, “All the affected officers are directed to hand over all the state government property in their possession to the secretary to the state government before the close of work on Monday, Nov 23.”

Our correspondent reports that the affected appointees came from the zone of former governor Sam Egwu, a serving senator, who recently vowed not to toe the line of Gov Umahi in dumping the Peoples Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, Gov Umahi Friday night said that his defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC, was not connected with his speculated presidential ambition. Speaking during a live television programme, Umahi maintained that his future was in the hands of God, maintaining that his move was to make a public outcry on the plights of the people of the Southeast as they pertained to the presidency of Nigeria.

He also said if he had been in the APC all this while, and the same fate was meted to the people of the Southeast that he would have cried out against the injustice.
