Truck Driver Dies As Diesel-Laden Truck Crashes In Awka

A truck driver, identified as Mr Taiwo, died Friday evening in a lone road accident at Immigration junction, along Awka-Enugu expressway. The accident happened around 1828hrs. The white Mark truck has no registration.

It was gathered that the crash occurred as a result of loss of control due to excessive speeding by the truck driver. RC Kamal Musa, Anambra State acting sector education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, told our correspondent that a total of two male adults were on board, including the truck driver, who got trapped in the process, but later brought out dead. He said the corpse had been deposited at the morgue of Amaku Teaching Hospital by FRSC rescue team from the Sector Command.

THE WHISTLER reports that the SSA to Anambra State governor on petroleum and union matters, Comr Peter Nwosu, and men of the Anambra State Fire Service participated during the rescue operations.

Meanwhile, the sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, while sending his condolences to the deceased family, warned motorists, especially truck drivers to desist from excessive speeding and abide by the stipulated speed limits in built-up areas as traffic crashes were avoidable.
