Governorship Poll: Use Your Vote To Decide Future, Security Of Edo – Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki on Tuesday assured the people of Edo State of adequate security during the forthcoming governorship poll in the state.

Obaseki, who stated this in a photo message posted on his facebook page, also charged the electorate in the state to use the instrumentality of their votes to decide the future of the state.

His post reads: “Government has assured all voters of adequate security.

“Let us use our votes to decide the future of Edo state.”

His assurance and call comes barely a day after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, warned politicians in the state not to test the will of the force by threatening the nation’s democracy and security during the election.

Adamu said anyone who attempted to test the will of the security forces would be identified and brought to justice, “regardless of his political leanings.”

The police boss had a few weeks ago, accused some nameless politicians in the state of arming and moving political thugs ahead of the poll.

He had before then, ordered a nationwide clampdown on illegal arms in a measure to ensure a peaceful election.

The Edo governorship election comes up on September 19.

It is a straight battle between the two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki is seeking a second term in office under the platform of the PDP, while Osagie Ize-Iyamu is contesting the poll on the ticket of the APC.

Only recently, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, held a meeting with the key political players in the election to warn them about using arms to secure victory, as against credible polling.

The meeting had in attendance Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu.

The Oba, who expressed his displeasure, added that there might not be Edo state for either of them to govern after the election if they armed thugs to kill people of the state and razed their property for their own selfish reasons.

He also warned that thugs would not surrender their arms after the poll, but would keep them to continue to unleash mayhem on the state.
