Hit-And-Run Driver Kills One In Onitsha

An unidentified man was Monday morning killed by a hit-and-run driver around MCC junction, along Onitsha-Awka expressway, in Anambra State.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim died on the spot after being hit by the unidentified vehicle.

The sector public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, RC Pascal Anigbo, told THE WHISTLER that the rescue team of the corps however rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

He said, “On getting to the scene, the FRSC rescue team, from Onitsha Unit Command, found a middle aged man lying helplessly on the ground. He was rushed to Toronto Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by doctors on duty. The corpse was deposited at the morgue in the same hospital.”

An eyewitness said, “The man was knocked down by a hit-and- run driver. Details of the vehicle were not taken as the driver did not stop after hitting the man.

The sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, in a statement, warned motorists against speed limit violation, and also called on pedestrians to be safety conscious when using the road

According to him, “Pedestrians should always use the pedestrian bridges where available. Our deepest condolences to the family of the dead.”
