How Twitter User Broke News Of Nigeria’s Third Coronavirus Case

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has said that the third coronavirus case in the country was reported by a twitter user.

According to the health authority, the twitter user whose name was not disclosed had tweeted that his friend who returned from UK had a runny nose but could not reach authorities for testing.

Recall that the NCDC had advised anyone who returned from a country with widespread community transmission of coronavirus to stay at home and isolate for 14 days.

“If you notice fever, cough or difficulty breathing call NCDC’s toll-free number IMMEDIATELY 080097000010”

However the NCDC  directly contacted the  Twitter user via Direct message(DM)  and within 12 hours of communication, a sample of the 30-year old woman was collected.

Following the lab confirmation on Monday night, NCDC said she was admitted to Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.
