IGP Deploys More Detectives To Re-arrest Oyo Fleeing Serial Killer

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Wednesday, deployed more detectives in Oyo State to track the fleeing serial killer, Sunday Shodipe.

Shodipe had escaped from the custody of the Oyo State Police Command in suspicious circumstances. He is said to be the prime suspect in murder of multiple innocent people in Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya, Ibadan, in the state.

Force Spokesman, Frank Mba disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Mba said detectives from the Intelligence Response Team and the Special Tactical Squad of the Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja, had been deployed in Oyo State to assist the command in re-arresting the suspect.

According to him, the team is expected to bring their vast operational, technical and investigative experience to bear in supporting ongoing efforts to re-arrest and bring the fugitive to book.

He said: “The IGP, who condemned the unfortunate escape from the lawful custody of the suspect, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, to intensify efforts and ensure the prompt re-arrest of the fleeing suspect.

“The CP has also been directed to speed up investigations into the circumstances that led to the escape of the suspect. All persons indicted in the escape are to be identified and made to face the wrath of the law.”

The police boss, Mba further noted, directed the Oyo police commissioner to immediately assess and rejig the security architecture in the state so as to prevent any future occurrence of the untoward incident.

The force spokesman called for more cooperation from people in the state to avail useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing serial killer.
