IGP Visits Kaduna Over Insecurity As Armed Men Invade Another LGA, Abduct Residents

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday, visited Kaduna State following the recent abduction of 287 students and pupils of a school in Kuriga, located in the Chikun Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

“The IGP was in the state to assess the situation firsthand,” a statement by the police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi revealed on Tuesday.

The IGP who met with the Governor, extended heartfelt sympathies to the people of Kaduna, particularly the Kuriga community affected by the tragic incident.

The IGP reiterated the dedication of the Police to ensuring the safe rescue of all the abducted students assuring that both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches are being pursued to secure the release of the students and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The IGP also announced the immediate deployment of mobile policemen to the Kuriga Community to enhance security in the affected area and facilitate swift action towards the rescue operation.

In response, the Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani reaffirmed the government’s readiness to support the police in their rescue efforts.

He assured of continuous assistance and provision of support to the deployed officers, while he cautioned against sensational reportage by the media.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 61 people were reportedly abducted after an incursion into the Buda community in Kajuru LGA of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night as insecurity in the area heightened in recent times with residents pleading for the return of an Army Commander, popularly known as Tega, whose presence hitherto deterred banditry operations in the area.
