Senator representing Bayelsa East in the National Assembly, Ben Murray Bruce has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to increase the National Minimum Wage.
The outspoken senator, who said this via his twitter handle, added that if the minimum wage is increased, then the rate of corruption in the country will reduce.
“I urge FG to increase minimum wage out of economic necessity because the higher minimum wage goes, the lower the rate of corruption goes,” he wrote on his Twitter handle.

In an earlier tweet, Ben Bruce said he could not fathom the kind of poverty a Nigerian earning N18,000 monthly was going through.
Imagine the type of poverty that a man earning 18,000 Naira goes through. His take home pay can not even pay his transport to and from work!

If his salary cant feed him or his wife & kids, Would it be possible to expect a man earning ₦28k not to steal when he sees the opportunity?

No one who works should be extremely poor. A minimum wage of ₦18k is equivalent to $40 which is $1.40 a day. That is an extremely poor wage.
