INEC Hints Bayelsa Poll May Be Shifted

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has disclosed that it may shift the November 2 Bayelsa Governorship election in the state.

The Commission noted that it is considering a proposal from the Bayelsa Government for a shift in the poll.

Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu announced this today in Abuja during a meeting with stakeholders from Bayelsa state.

The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Gboribiogha Jonah who made the proposal said the date of the election clashes with the state’s annual thanksgiving.

Jonah expressed difficulty in changing the date for the annual thanksgiving which according to him is backed by law.

INEC further disclosed that it would soon commence the prosecution of electoral offenders whose case files have already been prepared by the Nigerian Police.
