INEC Storms NASS To Serve Melaye His Recall Notice

Less than 24 hours after Senator Dino Melaye claimed it was too late to recall him from the Senate, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have stormed the National Assembly Complex to serve him his recall notice.

Melaye, it would be recalled, claimed INEC had exhausted the 90-day time limit it had to recall him from the upper legislative chamber.

“I celebrate the obituary of the ‘Made in Taiwan’ recall exercise, while sympathising with the induced petitioners, who will obviously face charges of forgery and other criminal charges before a court of law very, very soon,” he had said.

The lawmaker, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, had relied on Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in his claim.

But INEC, as reported by PUNCH, arrived at Melaye`s office on Tuesday to serve him the notice.
