INEC To Conduct Supplementary Presidential Elections In Lagos, Rivers, Others

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that supplementary elections will hold in some states on March 9.

A statement by INEC’s national commissioner for information and voter education, Festus Okoye, revealed that the elections will hold in states where the poll was cancelled last Saturday.

According to the statement, the supplementary polls will be conducted alongside the governorship and state houses of assembly elections.

Recall that the election was cancelled by the electoral body in states where violence and other irregularities had occurred. Some of the states affected were some local governments in River state, Lagos and Anambra states.

A statement issued by Okoye after the resident electoral commissioners (RECs) which held in Abuja read in part, “Consequently, the meeting decided that supplementary elections will be conducted in all areas where elections did not take place and/or where returns could not be made on Satutday, 9th March 2019 alongside the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.”
