IPOB Denies Plot To Attack Lagos, Says Police Commissioner ‘Fueling Division’

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied an allegation by the police that its members were plotting to attack “soft targets” in Lagos State.

The group’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Powerful, described the allegation false.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, revealed on Monday that the police had identified 24 separatist groups in the state, including IPOB and the Oodua Republic.

Odumosu, while delivering a paper titled ‘Appraisal of Security Situation in Lagos State” at a town hall meeting in the state, said the police force had gathered intelligence on alleged plots by the groups to disrupt law and order in the state.

But Powerful, in a statement on Tuesday, accused Odumosu of conniving with the Lagos State Government to incite hate between the Igbos and Yorubas.

He said, “The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who made the allegation is a former Chief Security Officer to Bola Tinubu and their intention is to fuel division between the Yoruba and Biafrans; but it won’t work. This is not 1967.”
