Iran: Stampede Kills Mourners At Burial Ceremony For Qassem Soleimani

The influx of multitudes at the funeral procession of Qassem Soleiman, leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, caused a stampede which led to the death of some of the mourners.

Iranian state TV reports that a number of mourners have been killed in a stampede at the burial ceremony of Iran’s most prominent military commander.

Soleimani will be buried in his home town Kerman, in a “martyrs’ cemetery”.

In another development, top government officials used the opportunity to express their anger at the United States of America.

After the killing of the Quds leader by an American airstrike, tensions have escalated in parts of the Middle East; even as foreigners have been urged by their home countries to return.

The leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Esmail Qaani threatened to “set ablaze” places supported by the US after the death of the general.

But the Iranian state TV is yet to confirm the number of people that were killed in the stampede.
