UN Meeting: U.S Denies Iran’s Foreign Minister Entry Visa

Iran’s Foreign minister, Mohammad Zarif has said that the United States of America has denied him  visa to attend a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on Thursday.

Aljazeera reports that Zarif’s attendance at the Security Council was planned before Soleimani was killed, escalating global tensions.

Zarif disclosed on Tuesday that the US wants to keep Iran out of the crucial meeting because they want to hide the truth.

“They fear that someone comes to the US and reveals realities,” he said.

Donald Trump had ordered the killing of Iran’s most prominent military commander, Qassem Soleimani, by an airstrike, last Friday.

However, the 1947 UN “headquarters agreement,” mandates the US to allow access to the UN by foreign diplomats.

But Washington has said it has the right to deny visas for “security, terrorism and foreign policy” reasons.

Also, US State Department is yet to comment on the visa issue.
