ISWAP Fighters Killed In Air Strikes, Says DHQ

The Defence Headquarters has said that troops of the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE killed several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, who were planning to launch an attack in Borno State.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, John Enenche, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Enenche said the air attacks were carried out on Tuesday under the ongoing subsidiary Operation HAIL STORM 2 at Tumbuma Baba, one of the Island settlements on the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin in Borno.

He said the Island served as a logistics hub for the terrorists.

The defence spokesman did not, however, disclose the exact number of terrorists killed.

He revealed that the attack was after “Human Intelligence (HUMINT) reports indicated that several ISWAP fighters and some of their leaders had converged in some structures concealed under the thick vegetation of the area, preparing to launch an attack.”

He also gave an insight into how the air attack was carried out:

“The ATF therefore dispatched a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships to engage the location. The attack aircraft scored devastating hits on the settlement, killing several terrorists and destroying their structures.”
