Ize-Iyamu: The Shepherd Edo Needs

In about 16 day time, the people of Edo state will troop out, expectedly en masse, to decide the fate of governance not just for the next four years but the very policy direction of the state. Just like the 2015 general election was to determine the trajectory of Nigeria, so also is the September 10 Edo election.

Given the malfeasance of the Adams Oshiomhole years, which many Edolites are agreed has been characterized by hard labour through stiff taxation and obnoxious policies, there is the urgency to break with the past.

And that is where the candidature of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu makes sense.

As a Man of God also imbued with earthly authority, it is instructive that if Edo state must break with the yolk and burden of Oshiomhole and the APC then it should look for a man that has survived the crucible of the ruling party. It is no longer in doubt that the pancake of the APC and the so-called Comrade-Governor has washed off and like the people will say, the fowl rump is outside because of the wind.

If anything, Edolites should take a cue from the Bible as a people of faith and tradition that if Oshiomhole has laid a heavy yolk on the state, his protégé, Godwin Obaseki, “will make it even heavier.” His father, Oshiomohole has scourged Edolites “with whips;” be sure that Obaseki “will scourge you with scorpions.” But the good news is that they is one who has waded through the subterfuges of Adams and the APC, the one that is coming with the assurance of Heaven and its anointing to ensure that “He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; so that Edolites “will not be afraid of the terror (APC) by night, Or of the arrow (Oshiomhole) that flies by day…”

To run Edo state requires a man of competence, compassion and a blueprint. If Ize-Iyamu were not competent, unlike the one whose result miraculously appears after 20 years, successive governments would not have sought for his services. As a loyal servant of such administrations, he carried out his functions diligently, dispensing much needed advice until such a time there are not heeded, he leaves. If the PDP candidate was about the pilfering of Edo state patrimony as is evident in the poor delivery by the APC regime in the state, he could have stayed on with the Lord Manor of Edo State till date. Rather, he choose the honourable path and walked out on a government whose only investment is matrimonial import.

Today, the APC in Edo state and its henchman tells the people that rains were the reason for nearly eight years that roads were not built, hospitals left abandoned, the people taxed to near-slavery and schools in shambles.

It is these very reasons that show that Edo state needs a shepherd, a person grounded in faith and has great respect for the cultural values of our people. A man like Ize-Iyamu that understands the complexities of engaging the people for growth and development owing to his rich civil and political pedigrees.
