JAMB To Prosecute Alleged Fraudsters

Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, JAMB, Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, has vowed to prosecute persons bent on thwarting the efforts of the exam body through illegal activities.

Oloyede, who spoke in Abuja, while monitoring the mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, on Saturday, alleged that some persons were hell-bent on thwarting the effort of the board.

He however vowed that the board will not allow such persons to succeed, stressing that “those of them that are caught, the law will not allow them to go scot free; we will call the appropriate agencies to prosecute them.”

The JAMB boss pledged the board’s commitment to stick to its sincerity of purpose and disclosed that over 1.5 million candidates have so far registered for the 2017 UTME in less than five weeks, adding that the board has put in place good facilities for the exercise.

Oloyede said the latest technology acquired by JAMB will substantially reduce cost amounting to billions of naira.

He said JAMB has improved on its biometric capture of candidates fingerprints as all ten fingerprints were now captured to ensure that incidents of bypass which allowed opportunity for fraudsters to impersonate and cheat in the exams are no longer allowed.

Our correspondent however gathered that in one of the centers at Digital Bridge Institute in Abuja, a candidates ten fingerprints were all rejected after trying unsuccessfully for an hour.

The Registrar however urged the invigilators to allow an exception for him, while the matter will be sorted out at its headquarters in Bwari before the May 13 and 20, 2017 actual UTME commences.

Speaking further on the mock exam, which was held in 633 centers across the country with 153,000 participants, he declared the exercise a success, while commending JAMB’s partners, Airtel and MTN for providing good services during the test.

Oloyede expressed the readiness of the board to conduct the 2017 UTME, using the Computer Based Test, CBT model.

“I believe that so far so good, it has been better than our expectations because it is a mock, a trial. But so far so good it has been okay. The intention was to test the technology and it has shown that it is a perfect technology. We thank our partners, MTN and Airtel for doing a very good job.
“We have a control room where we monitor situation from all over the country. As at when I left office, quarter to seven this morning, at least 90 percent of the centers have reported positively; proper downloading and preparation for the exams,” he said.
