JUST IN: U.S. Secretary Blinken Visits Israel, Admits Humanitarian Situation In Gaza

In a joint press briefing in Jerusalem, Israel, on Monday, the United States Secretary of States, Antony Blinken told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. and its international partners will address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Palestine.

Blinken made the announcement following the eleven-day battle between the Israel Defense Force and Hamas military organization in Gaza which was provoked by a clash between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police operatives at the Al-Asqa Mosque situated at the Temple Mount, Jerusalem.

The U.S. Secretary said the American government was not happy with the casualty on both sides, adding that it would work to rebuild trust among the neighbours while isolating Hamas.

“That begins with tackling the great humanitarian situation in Gaza and starting to rebuild. The United States will work to rally international support around that effort while also making our significant contributions.

“We will work with our partners to ensure that Hamas does not benefit from the reconstruction assistance.

“At the same time, we need to work to expand opportunity for Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank including by strengthening private sector investment… these will help foster a more stable environment that benefits Palestinians and also benefits Israelis,” he said.

On his part, Netanyahu appreciated the U.S. for standing by Israel’s right to defend itself from external aggression.

He also urged the U.S. to ensure that Iran does not enrich its nuclear capability, claiming that country’s leadership was a major enemy of Israel.

Blinken is billed to also visit Palestine.
