JUST IN: Wike Berates FG For Prioritising Lagos Over Other States In COVID-19 Support

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has criticised the federal government for lending more support to Lagos than other states in the fight against COVID-19.

Recall that the federal government had given a N10 billion grant to Lagos State as support in the fight against the virus.

In a statement on Sunday, Wike said that prioritising Lagos State was a way of politicising the fight against the pandemic.

According to him, “it is quite unfortunate that the containment of coronavirus has been politicized by the Federal Government. While Lagos State received a grant of N10billion as a commercial hub.

“Rivers State is entitled to support from the Federal Government. Every day, we are inundated with letters from the Federal Government to allow oil companies to fly in expatriates to drill Oil.

“Then we ask, what is the status of those coming from Lagos? Nobody has told us their status as regards coronavirus.”

“If they come to Rivers without us knowing their status, what will be implication assuming they have the virus.”

Wike added that people coming from Lagos without knowledge of their status would pose huge threat to other states.
