Kamala Harris: A Look At Biden’s Running Mate In US Politics

Kamala Harris (55), who was recently picked as running mate by Democratic Party’s presidential flag bearer, Joe Biden, is no newcomer in the United States socio-political space.

Kamala also thanked Biden for choosing her, stressing she was hopeful Biden would emerge as the country’s “Commander-in-Chief”.

She obtained various degrees from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law, thereby graduating as a legal practitioner.

She is very critical of President Donald Trump’s policy of not defunding the police, amidst the death of Black American, George Floyd.

She had said it was “an attempt to obstruct real progress and real justice”.

The career path of this California resident has been along the lines of the judiciary, with particular focus on community empowerment.

She worked with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and eventually became the City Attorney of San Francisco’s office.

Climbing higher, the lawyer was elected the Attorney General of California in 2010; and also won a second term in 2014.

Legislation

In November 2016, she won the United States Senatorial Seat on the Democratic Party platform and was sworn in in 2017.

According a document obtained from the US Senate, Kamala serves in the following committees: Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Intelligence, Environment and Public Works ; and Budget.

Party Presidential Contender

Harris had contested for the presidential ticket of the Democratic Party ahead the November 3rd election.

During one of the party’s debates, she had accused Joe Biden of supporting racism.

“I’m gonna direct this at Vice President Biden…it hurts to hear you talk about the reputations of two US senators who built their reputations and career on segregation of race in this country and you also worked with them”, she said.

However, Kamala later backed down from the contest on the grounds that her campaign was not adequately funded.
