Kenya Denies Arresting, Deporting Nnamdi Kanu–Report

The controversy around the interception and extradition of leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is yet to clear as Kenya government reportedly dismissed claims that it had a hand in the IPOB leader’s arrest.

A Kenyan based news outlet, Nation, reported on Friday that the country’s Director General of Immigration Services, Alexander Muteshi denied “the claims of Kenya’s complicity, arguing that it was not possible to tell whether Mr Kanu had entered Kenyan territory.”

“I can’t know that,” Mr Muteshi told the Nation when asked to confirm or deny the Kanu’s family’s claim that he was abducted on Kenyan soil.

Muteshi further said that “I am not in the picture of his presence in the country. I am only able to tell if somebody entered the country legally.”

Local media also reports that the Kenyan Government’s Spokesman, Cyrus Oguna, declined commenting on the matter.

THE WHISTLER reported that Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami SAN had on Tuesday, announced that the IPOB leader was arrested through Nigeria’s security intelligence but did not reveal where it occurred.

The UK, where Kanu holds a citizenship passport, had also denied that he was extradited from Britain.

Meanwhile, the AGF had said that Kanu was brought back to Nigeria to face an 11 count charge bordering on treason.
