Kidnappers Abduct Traders Traveling To Aba, Demand N27m Ransom

27 traders traveling from Kano to buy goods in Aba, Abia State, were reportedly accosted along the road and abducted by bandits.

The traders were said to come from Kofar Wambai, Sabongari and other markets in Kano, for the trip to Aba.

The traders, according to available reports had boarded a luxury bus on Sunday night from Kano heading to Aba to buy goods and return the next day.

But their plans were disrupted that night as bandits shot at the tyres of their vehicle, forcing it to stop.

It was unclear where the attack took place but all the 27 passengers were kidnapped.

The bandits subsequently demanded about N50m to secure their release after establishing contact with their families.

The kidnappers later reduced the ransom to N1m per head, which is a total of N27 million.

Sources told journalists in Kano that some of the victims are small scale traders who could not afford the ransom.

THE WHISTLER contacted the Kano State Police Public Relation Officer, Abdullahi Haru, for more details on the abduction but did not pick his calls.
